Will Rs 3.5 crore be enough for my retirement corpus?

Jun 21, 2019

I am 30 years old and married. I am investing Rs 7500 per month via SIP. SIP amounts are Rs 2000 in blue chip, Rs 1500 each in midcap, smallcap and ELSS funds.

I am investing for my retirement. I want to create a corpus of Rs 3.5 crore. My current monthly expense is Rs 33,000. I am planning to increase SIP by 10% every year

  1. Will Rs 3.5 crore be enough for my retirement corpus?
  2. Will I be able to meet my goal?
  3. My funds are good/diversified enough within equity or do I need to change or rebalance it?

Hello Praneet,

The simple rule for calculating retirement corpus is 25 times your annual expenses should be your corpus and 4% withdrawal should be your expenses

The calculation of retirement corpus is a bit involved and roughly depends on:

  • Your monthly expenses
  • Inflation rate
  • Your retirement age
  • Your lifespan
  • etc
