I am thinking of hiring a financial advisor to prepare a comprehensive financial plan for my family. What qualifying questions should I ask an advisor before hiring them?
You don't need to worry too much about what questions to ask an advisor.
you need to keep it simple, make a note of why you feel you need an advisor ? note down what difficulties you are facing ? note down where you feel you need help in your Money Management ?
Speak to few Advisors, discuss the issues that you have noted down, Go with the advisor with whom you feel more compatible, with whom you feel like discussing freely. As Financial Planning is not an one time activity, its an evolving process and you work as in partnership with your advisor for long term.
Stay away from Advisors who are also into Sales and Distribution of Financial Products, also stay away from Advisors who promise higher return or guaranteed return from the Market.
