Swapnil is a fee-only financial planner and the founder of VivekTaru (vivektaru.com). I work on the Financial Planning model of advisory. My job as a financial planner is to set your financial house in order, and align your savings and investments with your goals and objectives; so that you have enough funds available at the time of need. The emphasis is on avoidance of serious mistakes or losses, and to be free from effort, annoyance and the need for making frequent decisions.
I give advise based on the understanding that the future is unpredictable. There are a range of possibilities in the future. There could be lucky as well as unlucky outcomes. I believe that the financial plan should be designed to withstand and survive unlucky outcomes and not just to sell dreams.
After spending over 6 years of my life studying and exploring personal finance and investing, I have realised that outcomes are not in investor or adviser’s control. No investor or adviser can find the best performing fund of the future unless he/she is lucky. The role of an adviser is to help his clients focus on the process, follow time-tested principles and practicalities of investing, and avoid common investing pitfalls since it leads to much better outcomes in investing compared to the focus on outcomes. I keep things simple in life as well as in financial planning. I do not recommend complicated financial products.
If you are looking for a simple, unbiased and no-nonsense approach to your financial planning, you have landed at the right place.
